How I survived the Winter

English Winter is harsh. It is not the worst in the world, but when you have been brought up in a country where the coldest weather you have had is 10 degrees, then English Winters are hard. There were a few lifesavers in my bathroom cabinet that really help me survive London and its harsh conditions.

Coconut oil

Ok so this is kind of an all rounder for the year but this coconut oil has been a heavy body moisturiser, a hair mask, a conditioner for my eyelashes and my teeth’s best defence against London’s water. Yes, you read that correctly, I use coconut oil to protect my teeth. Every morning, I chew on two teaspoons of coconut oil while I am in the shower. This is called oil pulling and is amazing for detoxing, gum health, teeth health and helping the defense system.

The main points? Do it on an empty stomach, try really hard not to swallow the oil, do it for at least ten minutes a day. I have never felt better since I started oil pulling in the morning. You can read more about oil pulling on Wellness Mama. I use Biona Organic Coconut oil, I like the glass jar it comes in (DIY projects galore) and it is really good value for money.

Neutrogena Hand and Nail Cream

This cream has been amazing for my hands. The Winter days have done nothing for my cuticles and I have needed some serious defence from the cold and wind. The small tube fits in my handbag, the formula is light and soaks in easily and I find I can go about eight hours without needing to top the cream up again. It is amazing and a must have for Winter.

Carmex Lip Balm

This has been one of my favourites for a really long time and it has really been put to the test while I have been in London. I use this little pot of gold every single day because there is one thing I cannot live life with and that is chapped lips. It has camphor and menthol in it so you get a cool tingly sensation when you put it on but it doesn’t ever get too much! I am a fan of the original tub but they have tubes, chapsticks and different flavours too. They also don’t test on animals which is a huge plus for a lot of people, including me!

Evian Facial Spray

This has revolutionised my beauty routine! It tones, it hydrates and it even seals in makeup. If my skin is feeling dry and sapped, I quickly mist my face and I am completely refreshed again. It comes in smaller cans so that you can keep it on hand in your handbag and I cannot get enough of it!
